Epl Resumes in 2021

The English premier league saw it’s first string of matches since Friday 1st of January 2021 without having any break in a bid to manage the fixture effectively.

Manchester United defeated Aston Villa in an interesting New year encounter. Goal difference is all that separates Liverpool and Manchester United at the top after the Red Devils’ 2-1 win over Aston Villa. The visitors appeared to be in the ascendancy after Bertrand Traore’s 58th-minute effort cancelled out Anthony Martial’s first-half opener but a Bruno Fernandes’ penalty sent Manchester United level on points with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

Tottenham bounced back against Leeds United haven been without a win in four league games. A penalty from Kane and Son’s landmark goal had Spurs 2-0 up at half-time and Toby Alderweireld’s first league goal since netting against Arsenal in July gave Leeds too much of a mountain to climb, the only blemish on Tottenham’s victory a sending off for Matt Doherty in injury time after he committed a second bookable offence. The win moves Tottenham to fourth on the log on 29 points with a match at hand.

Arsenal won emphatically again with a 4-0 victory against Westbrom at the Hawthorns to make it three in a row. After a seven-match winless run in the top flight prior to Christmas, the Gunners seems to have found their form after defeating Chelsea as they have won their last three matches on the bounce since beating Chelsea 3-1 on boxing day at home and Brighton and Hove Albion away and were full of confidence against Sam Allardyce’s struggling side. Fine first-half goals five minutes apart from Kieran Tierney and Bukayo Saka – the first a sublime solo strike, the second a flowing team move – made a mockery of tricky conditions and moved Arsenal out of sight. Alexandre Lacazette added a comical clincher and later doubled his tally as a third straight victory boosted Mikel Arteta’s men up to 11th.

Manchester City mounts pressure on underfire Chelsea boss Frank Lampard as they were brutally defeated 3-1 at home. Manchester City impressively overcame the absence of key first-team players due to coronavirus haven seen their match postponed against Everton earlier this week due to the COVID-19 outbreak at the club, one that left them without six squad members for their first match of 2021. Kevin DeBruyne assisted one and had a goal to himself as Ikay Gundogan and Phil Foden completed the win. Callum Hudson-Odoi scored a late consolation for Chelsea but that was the only disappointment for the visitors, who made it three league wins in a row to move up to fifth in the table, within four points of top spot with a game in hand. Chelsea, meanwhile, remain down in eighth position.
