What a weekend in EPL

2 Mins read

Manchester United failed to reduce their gap to give their city rivals a fight at the top when they played a 3-3 draw with Everton after surrendering a two goals lead on the night. First-half goals from Cavani and Fernandes had put United two goals to the good at half-time. Ancelotti’s men instantly responded in the second half, scoring twice in quick succession through Doucoure and Rodriguez to pull back level. McTominay seemed to have won the game for the hosts, after heading past Olsen but Calvert-Lewin then popped up with a dramatic, stoppage-time equaliser past De Gea. The points are shared, as this game finishes 3-3. Manchester United still remain second on the log with 5points behind the citizens and playing a game more than the citizens, while the draw took Everton to sixth on the table.

Manchester City got their first win in the premier league at Anfield since 2013 after crushing Liverpool 4-1 courtesy of goals from Gundogan, Sterling and Phil Foden. City, who have a game in hand on all of their title rivals, has now equalled the all-time winning run by an English top-flight side across all competitions, winning each of their last 14 matches – the same number as Preston (ending in 1892) and Arsenal (ending in 1987). Liverpool, meanwhile, is still without a win at Anfield in 2021, and have lost three successive matches at their home ground. Salah’s penalty cancelled out Gundogan’s opener, but two Alisson errors which led to goals from Gundogan and Sterling and a stunner from Foden have surely ended Liverpool’s title hopes. Raheem Sterling became the 3rd player to reach 100 or more goals under Pep Guardiola after Lionel Messi(212) and Sergio Aguero(120).

Thomas Tuchel got his third successive victory at Chelsea after beating Sheffield away from home. Tuchel’s unbeaten run in charge of Chelsea continues with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United. Mount put the visitors ahead just before half-time when he picked out the bottom corner. United got back into it though after a mix-up between Rudiger and Mendy meant the defender scored an own goal. Jorginho put his side ahead again from the spot after Ramsdale fouled Werner and Sharp had a chance to score a late equaliser, but his overhead kick was saved by Mendy. Chelsea is now unbeaten in their last four games and move up to fifth in the table, just one point behind Liverpool.
